01. First Steps


Hello everyone, Shatargat here!

This page is for my upcoming game Lost Echoes. It's a Year Zero Engine based space horror game that also has some OSR or MörkBorgish logics. I created this game for DriveThruRPG's Pocket Quest 2023 game-jam, and I'm thinking about spending some time on it to make it better, because during that time, I had lots of interesting ideas about the game, but sadly the page limit was 20. So I focused on creating a introductory-level game, and now, thinking about expanding the game further.

When I started to design this game, I wanted to keep it simple as possible like any YZE game, but also wanted to include some heavy obstacles that I encountered in Mörk Borg. I wanted to keep it different from ALIEN RPG, and Death in Space, so I created two different approaches into the game:

  1. Dungeoncrawl/Hexcrawl: As you can understand by its name, it's your regular hack and slash style of game. That means, you will start your game somewhere abandoned, and will try to make your way out of it, while encountering deadly traps and vile alienoids.
  2. Self Exploration: It's another approach to the game that has heavy psychological roleplaying elements. Your character does not remember much, and (maybe) remembers the things mistakenly. So, while trying to survive in that abandoned environment, this version focuses more on revealing the hidden truth. In the litle game-jam document, there's not much information that will provoke this feature of the game, but I have lots of future plans and I'll be waiting for your support!

It took my 3 days to create the game, and a couple hours to edit. I know that there are some issues in this state of the game, but I wanted to finish its first look as soon as possible, while I was drowning in political dramas in my country.

When you get the PDF once it's released, you will find a non-bookmarked last title, and there will be some information about what I'm planning with this game structure.

I think I still have to learn how to use Adobe inDesign more efficiently, and if I can ever learn how to improve myself on it, there will be lots of cool stuff!

The game will be released on 1st of July, when the Pocket Quest jam ends. Then I will share the links and stuff. It's enough for the first post, I believe, so, see you soon!
